In which work is done

UUUURGH. drawing project....all done. No more leaving projects to the last minute! I've been saying that since forever, but I swear I mean it this time!
Look at me posting twice in a week! I'm fighting the part of me that makes me a useless blogger. See, I want to wait and produce something career defining and brilliant before I post about it. I still feel that way. But what really happens is that months pass without me creating anything even passable, let alone the aforementioned career defining brilliance. So I scrape the bottom of my proverbial art-barrel, and end up posting what ever scaps I find. Meaning I should really have just posted that scap as I made it. So thats my new goal. Just upload stuff. So matter how mediocre. That said; heres some mediocre drawings from my life drawing class!

"Surrealism" It's not that hard.
So this completely average guy came out of my last drawing project. The idea was take a life drawing and add to it and surrealify it. So I went with the whole "add an animal head" approach to surrealism. Too easy.

Everything about this is the opposite to "life" drawing.

So if your life model can't come to class, apparently the solution is to wheel out the fake skeleton. Perhaps a sly commentary on the glorification of eating disorders in models in the fashion world.... or not... either way I dont completely hate it...
Also conté is hard! why the crap do we use it? I end up fucking figure painting everytime I use it. And small details are impossible! And then it gets on everything I touch for the rest of the day... ok no more complaining until I can figure out how to rant without sounding like a bad 80's stand up act, playing to a niche audience of artists.

Anyway, so that happened. I will further update you on my mediocre artistic exploits in the not-too-distant future.

In which I'm conspicuous in my lack of work

It's 4.30 am. It's the third time this week I've done an all nighter to try and finish projects. URRRRGH. I fail so hard. Running mostly on caffine and nicotine here. Heres a thing I did.
I kinda like it, its creepy....
digitally created from one image I did in life drawing. would love to tell you I drew them all, but i don't hate myself enough. So yeah, thats part of my project due in 5 hours. I guess i'll finish in time, just struggling with my painting. Liquid mediums aren't my friend at the best of times, let alone when i'm sleep deprived and brain dead. Fun times yo.
I think its coffee time again....

In which the Birthday Dapper-Fish is a thing

So I'm poor. And we all know that drawing is what people do for gifts when they’re too poor (cheap) to buy real gifts.
And thats fine because we all know the drill:
If it’s christmas; You draw some depiction of Santa getting his christmas on, if it’s easter; You draw a giant bunny in close proximity to chocolate eggs, if someone loses a tooth, you draw them a toothfairy, except you don’t because tooth-losey cards aren’t a thing, but if you were to express your feelings towards somebodies loss of a tooth in card format, you’d tart that card up with a horribly predictable likeness of the toothfairy.
But what about birthdays? birthdays don’t have a thing. And they should. There is no good reason why birthdays should be the one event that can’t be summed up as a character on a card.
So after an unreasonbly long time trying to decide what to draw, I realised there is gap in the market, and I went about designing the embodyment of birthday cheer. And after much workshopping, sleepless nights, and graphite stained figures, I present to you:
Nothing says happy birthday like a fish in a suit. It’ll catch on in no time. Enjoy, it’s my gift to the world.

So to klee, happy birthday and stuff. I hope the Birthday Dapper-Fish bought you all the fun-stuffed memories you wished for. And to everybody else, remember, Birthday Dapper-Fish, it’s a thing. Tell your friends.

In which a face happens

Its a face!
A pretty natasha-shaped-face to be precise. I know I wasn't very exciting in how I drew it, in the sense that it's lacking any surrealism that I would usually rely on to fool you into thinking my work is interesting (this isnt a new found confidence in my work, its just laziness). If it helps, it was intended to part of a comic involing the acquisition of lobster hands, but I have nothing to prove that.

So yes, despite being a purely theoretical audience, may say, "But James! what came of the zines and illustrations for graphic novels and games that you promised?" Well to that I say "Psh" and "whatev's" because I"m too angsty to do the work I've had 3 months to work on. In my defense I did start art school which is fairly intensive if you're prone to freaking out at the first sign of difficulty like I am.  As far as stuff that school  has made me do, I made this guy;

from Polystyrene... or was it Styrofoam? are they different?
*googles*
*doesnt understand the explaination*
*continues*
anyway, so then I did a bunch of fancy things and poured Aluminium onto it and it burst into pretty flames and evolved into this guy;

It was just like pokemon. Only pokemon don't give off noxious gases (except the ones that do)
Also I like how the Polystyrene/Styrofoam bits are still all over my desk in these photos despite a fairly significant amount of time having passed since carving him.
So yeah, thats my story.

END!

"My holdays" or "How I ammused myself when the internet was down" Part 3

In an attempt to further ignore the Graphic novel illustrations, and the Game-art I've been asked to do, and the holiday readings for school, and jobs I should apply for, I decided to start a zine with Natasha. She managed to be her usual awesome self and make her half in a day, while I took a different approach of gerring overwhelmed and drawing bugs instead.
here are my bugs...

"My holdays" or "How I ammused myself when the internet was down" Part 2

Part 2. Street Art pics

Just some arts around town I enjoyed. I thought i should document them before they're painted over by boring people.

"My holdays" or "How I ammused myself when the internet was down" part 1

So its summer holidays (the very very end of them), and I have a camera now! thanks to the lovely natasha killeen. I feel since I've been relatively post-less, my pity-followers may want to see some of photos of the fun times. PHOTO MONTAGE: COMMENCE!

Part 1- "Googly eye times"

My new hobby is sticking googly-eyes on vegetables at the super market then running away. you know, for that daily dose of rebellion and whimsy.
